Walt Disney Company acquires Marvel Entertainment for $ 4 billion

Walt Disney Company got into a boombastic deal as they agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4 billion which will bring Marvel’s more than 5,000 characters to Mickey Mouse magic kingdom.

Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company said:

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories. Ike Perlmutter and his team have done an impressive job of nurturing these properties and have created significant value. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.”

“We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation,” Iger added.

This is a big strategic development that will widen their shares as they target more licensing businesses and expansion.

New Set Design for 24 Oras and Saksi,Tonight

Tonight, 24 Oras and Saksi (Newscast) of GMA Network will be relaunched and will unveils its brand new, ultra-modern news set (August 11, 2008).

The new set design will introduced the latest broadcast innovations and will be the first news set in the country to use LED technology. The new equipment was previously seen in the newscasts of giant television networks like CBS and NBC.

They will presents three holodisplays, equipped with high-resolution projectors.

The new GMA News set is a fusion of different ideas and concepts inspired by the look of various news organizations all over the world.

Arnold Clavio and Vicky Morales renew their contract with GMA Network

After the veteran news anchor/Imbestigador host Mike Enriquez renew his contract with the Kapuso Network, two more anchor renews their ties.

Arnold Clavio and Vicky Morales renew their contract again with GMA Network. Aside from Mike Enriquez, this two are the stone wall of GMA's news and public affairs.

For 18 years Arnold Clavio served GMA Network and still continues to teach us in his emergency saving technique in the TV series, "Emergency".

Newly mom Vicky Morales, host of "Wish ko Lang" and dubbed as "The fairy Godmother of TV" who granted wishes to the less fortunate and help people who is in need will continue and widen her helpful hand.

GMA CEO and President Felipe Gozon described the two as the best newscaster in the Philippines.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao adopted a tiger and plans to build a Safari.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has many title under his belt beside being the WBC super featherweight champ. He is now a Datu given by the B'laan Tribe, a M/Sgt in Philippine Army and he also represents the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR).

The protector of the environment title was given by his supporter and political mentor DENR Secretary Lito Atienza.

Some of his duties that he done in DENR are environment awareness, the campaign against illegal loggers and the latest is he adopted a tiger.

Pacquiao plans to build a safari in his home town in General Santos City to help the DENR in its mission to propagate and protect endangered species.

He is following the footstep of his ally Governor Chavit Singson who also has a safari in his home town.

It was a different kind of showdown for Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton in Bloomington, Indiana. It is just when former President Bill Clinton was giving a speech about his wife, Obama’s campaign office in Bloomington began giving away tickets to Sunday’s Dave Matthews concert at Assembly Hall.

A student at IU, got his tickets about 8 p.m. after waiting more than three hours. He met folks in line who said they'd left the Clinton rally to wait for tickets,"
"I was leaning toward Obama, but this sealed the deal for sure," he said. "The Obama campaign announced this right as (Bill Clinton) was about to speak, and it brought everyone from over there to over here," Indystar reports.

So next time if you see a Hillary Clinton rally with lesser young voters, maybe their watching a concert...

GMA Network statement about Cristine Reyes' released

Enough is enough, GMA network decided to drop and stop pursuing Ara Mina's younger sister Cristine Reyes for a new contract.

Even before Cristine's contract with GMA Artist Center has expired, the young actress has been visible in GMA's rival network and she expressed her deep desire to transfer to ABS-CBN.

GMA Network has released the following statement about Cristine's status:

"GMA has decided to drop Cristine Reyes from its roster of talents because of her attitude and behavior. She is welcome to leave the network that has a lot more serious artists to assign important projects to and develop into fine, professional actors. Thus being said, GMA network has now closed its door on Cristine."

ABS-CBN has already offered her the lead role in the TV adaptation of Alma Moreno's 1976 movie titled Eva Fonda, 16 and she was being linked to a host who is much older (double of her age).

Hero Angeles is now a GMA artist. Is that a good news or a bad news?

The former ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Quest artist signed a contract with GMA Network and now he will be cast in a upcoming TV series for his first project.

Before Hero jump away from the Kapamilya network, he and his brother/manager Henry Angeles left some bad dispute towards some ABS-CBN artist and officials that cause some media frenzy.

Some people close to them described both brothers having an attitude problem that hard to handle.

A 1933 Original KING KONG film poster was sold for £180,000 or PHP 14,918,670.00 at a movie memorabilia auction held at Calabasas, California.

The 81in-square colour poster was billed as the best example of the last three billboard ads known to exist that promoted the famous 1933 movie, reports The Sun.

The two-day sale auctioned more than 1,100 items.

Gabby Concepcion posted P6,000 bail for falsification of public documents case

The return of Gabby Concepcion to the Philippines after 13 years created to much buzz and the existing network war between GMA and ABS-CBN started again to flame. Also on his comeback he must face some unsettled business.

Yesterday Gabby went to the Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) in Manila and posted bail for his unsettled case involving falsification of public documents.

Accompanied by his Lawyer Eduardo "Ed" Flaminiano and movie producer Rose Flaminiano, Gabby appeared to Judge Marlo Malagar of the MTC Branch 5 and posted a P6,000 bail in relation to a standing warrant of arrest issued for this unsettled case.

According to GMAnews, The details of the case are confidential but Rumors that his previous marriage with Grace Ibuna, Jenny Syquia and two other more are involved in this pending case.

Reports that the case has no connection with his previous involvement 13 years ago about the scam (rigging of results) he made with Lolit Solis and others in the 1994 Metro Manila Film Festival that cause him to decide to leave the Philippines and migrated (some people described as exile) to the U.S.

According to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), in a text message to them Gabby will make a interview with Boy Abunda and will appear in ABS-CBN's The Buzz.

There is previous report that theirs a talk of his comeback in movies with GMA Films with Jolina Magdangal but suddenly Gabby has decided to back out from the film a few weeks before the shooting starts.

Gabby will make his first appearance in ABS-CBN, is this mean theirs an under the table negotiations that happened to them? I'm sure GMA officials are now scratching their head right now.

A sad and a frustrated face of sexy actress-comedienne Angelica Jones as she saw her apartment at the Highway Hills commercial apartelle building in Sierra Madre, Mandaluyong destroyed by fire.

Jones failed to save her personal and work belongings.

"I lost all my things, I could only shout 'Fire' and run downstairs."

"My cell phone and money were all destroyed in the fire. I have no contacts with my workmates. All my things were destroyed."
("Nawala yung cell phone at pera ko sa sunog. Wala na akong contacts sa mga katrabaho ko. Nasunog lahat ng mga gamit ko.")

According to Mandaluyong Fire Marshalls, fire reportedly started in the kitchen area of Angelica's unit.

Former President Corazon Aquino has colon cancer

It is a sad day for the Aquino clan and the whole Philippines.

Former President Corazon Aquino was diagnosed with Cancer. Her daughter Kris Aquino confirmed in a statement about the bad news.

Kris said in a press conference that her mother is suffering from colon cancer.

The former president decided to release a statement regarding her health condition.

The family especially Kris became emotional asking for prayers, they also asked the public and the media to respect Mrs Aquino's privacy.

Aquino's family statement:
"Our mother had suffered from an episode of high blood pressure and difficulty in breathing followed by fever during the week in between Christmas and New Year. Since that time, we became concerned because of her consistent cough, loss of appetite and noticeable weight loss.

"Our mom wanted to know what was wrong with her, and with her family by her side, she submitted herself to a check-up and several tests. The results showed that our mother is suffering cancer of the colon," the younger Aquino read from a prepared statement.

"It's a very difficult time for our family, most especially for our mother. We respectfully ask that she be accorded her privacy.

"Our mom remains a believer in the power of prayer. We ask for your compassion and for your prayers for our mother's recovery".

Pacquiao fans and all Filipinos around the globe is celebrating specially the President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the successful win of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and grabbing the WBC super featherweight title belt from Mexican bober Juan Manuel Marquez via split decision.

Pres. Gloria Macapagal said, "I join the Filipino people in savoring this moment of sweet victory and national unity prompted by the courage, discipline and fighting heart of our boxing hero, Manny Pacquiao".

"He has brought immense glory to the Flag and Filipino with his victory. Once more, he has inspired us with his big fighting heart, his determination and grit,"

President Arroyo added "[he is]one of the nation's heroes" and "an icon of the masses," "who can unite the Filipino people even in times of divisiveness. Manny Pacquiao mirrors the champ within every Filipino, here and abroad".

Actually honestly speaking this victory will help and will be use by President Arroyo's administration to divert issues and allegations of corruption even in a short span of time.

Is it a goodbye to Jojo Alejar's "Sobrang Gudnite Show"?

I've been watching this late night show everyday since last year and it's a good alternative to watch. The show that airs every night at 11:00 p.m. gave viewers some laughs together with informative topics before they sleep and it also give opportunity to new artist.

Since Monday the "Sobrang Gudnite Show" is airing replays and has stopped taping new episodes for the said shows. Reportedly, the talk show is encountering financial problem and in need of Advertisers sponsorship.

Jojo A. was interview by Yugel Losorata and said that the host is remain optimistic that they will be able to resolve the problem.

Jojo said, "We’ll be airing replays in the next weeks and we’re still not sure whether we can continue the show because of lack of sponsors. We don’t have a problem with the ratings and we’re receiving good feedbacks naman from the viewers. Pero since block timer kami and hindi masyado pumapasok ang mga sponsors, we’re experiencing problems pagdating sa finances."

Many late night viewers will be disappointed if this show will bid goodbye this early.

Prince Harry returned home after blowing his cover

It is not safe any more! After more than two months on the battle zone the Prince is back.

After journalists blew his cover, Prince Harry returned home to Britain from his active duty in Afghanistan.

Prince Charles and his brother Prince William greeted Harry as he stepped off the plane wearing body armour, a green camouflage jacket and carrying a rucksack in RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

The Prince said: "It's very nice to be a normal person for once, I think this is about as normal as I'm ever going to get."

The Defence Ministry said he was withdrawn "primarily on the basis that the worldwide media coverage of Prince Harry in Afghanistan could impact on the security of those who are deployed there, as well as the risks to him as an individual".
