Michael Shannon plays villain in the upcoming Superman film

Michael Shannon will now show his force as General Zod against his enemy, the "Man of Steel" Superman!

Zack Snyder confirmed the big news, "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."

Th 35 year-old actor will face British actor Henry Cavill, who will now fly high as the new Superman. Also, joining the cast are Diane Lane, Amy Adams and Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent).

Shannon is a series regular in HBO's "Boardwalk Empire"
