Actress Dixie Carter, who is famous for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on "Designing Women" has passed away. She was 70 years old.
She was also nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Desperate Housewives in 2007.
She was married to actor Hal Holbrook for the past 26 years and she has two daughters Mary Dixie and Ginna.

Her husband Hal Holbrook tells ET, "This has been a terrible blow to our family. We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy. Thank you."Carter is a former first runner-up in Miss Tennessee Pageant 1959. She received a degree in English from Memphis State.
She was also nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Desperate Housewives in 2007.
