'Possession' keeps top spot on poor weekend box office

Lionsgate’s “The Possession” retained the top spot at the box office but the ticket sales slumped in the worst weekend in years. 

The cumulative ticket sales of the Top 12 films marked a 40 percent drop from last week and about 20 percent down on the same weekend last year.

The Possession generated  $9.5 million this weekend (earning total of  $33.3 million).
