American Idol finally sealed the deal with five-time Grammy award winner Mariah Carey to be the next judge for the show. She reportedly signed a 1-year contract deal worth a whopping $18 million.
FOX confirmed the big AI news,
"Mariah Carey, one of the best-selling female recording artists of all time, has joined AMERICAN IDOL as a new judge. ....Carey joins the judges’ panel when AMERICAN IDOL returns in January 2013 on FOX."
Happy with her new gig, Carey tweeted:
"It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent.LYM!"
IDOL creator and executive producer Simon Fuller welcomes the
“We are proud to have one of the world's greatest-ever female singers join our show. Mariah defines the word 'Idol' and will inspire every singer that has the honor of performing in front of her.”
The 42-year-old singer inked the deal after Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez both decided to leave the show.
Meanwhile, Carey is working on a new album and her new single titled “Triumphant”.
