Francis Magalona will be receiving the posthumous presidential medal of merit

Music icon and rap music pioneer in the Philippines Francis Magalona will be receiving the posthumous presidential medal of merit for promoting nationalism through his music.

The news was confirmed by Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, "The medal recognizes the nationalism and love of country that is there in all his performances."

The 44 year old artist passed away last Friday after battling the Big C (acute myelogenous leukemia).

Philippines' Music icon Francis Magalona passes away, age 44

The Philippine entertainment industry are now mourning for the death of a music icon. Francis Magalona, who is also an actor and a host has passed away at the Medical City hospital, Friday March 6. He is 44.

It was confirmed by his "Eat Bulaga" co-host Vic Sotto as he announced the sad news and asked for a minute of prayer. All the host in the said broke into tears.

"“We will surely miss him, pati na ang buong industriya. We request everyone to pause for a moment of prayers for the eternal repose of the soul of Francis. Our condolences to the family. Kiko, we love you."

April of 2008, The master rapper announced that he was diagnosed with leukemia and he asked the public for blood donations for his treatment. Francis also blogged it out his chemo cycle update via his Multiply page to keep his fans and supporters updated.

Francis Magalona 's 4th Chemo Cycle, need more blood donor

Philippines' music icon Francis Magalona who is undergoing treatment due to leukemia, has shared developments that he will undergo today, Friday January 16, '09.

Francis said via his multiply journal that he will undergo his fourth chemotherapy cycle at The Medical City. He also announced that he need more blood donors for blood and platelets.

Here's his entry entitled, "4th Chemo Cycle".

"Good evening people. I am getting prepared for my 4th Chemotherapy cycle, and I will be admitted tonight at The Medical City. I will be doing some tests tomorrow, wish me luck. Friday I begin my 4th cycle which is a Hi-Dose kind, as will be taking 6 grams of Cytarabin™ a day every other day for 3 days.

I will be at the 14th floor of the TMC, as usual. I brought alot reading materials (bible included!) and dvds to keep me company while I do my treatment. I will be doing my radiation treatment by February and my PBSCT (Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplant) will be done by March.

I look forward to the pain as I know my journey is on full speed ahead. I will not be bold to say that without asking a favor from you all. PLEASE PRAY for me as I undergo treatment. Your prayers, as always, have sustained me. And am sure the Lord will listen to all our prayers. To His will I submit myself.

God bless you, my friend.

PS: I will be needing blood donors for blood and platelets. Please go to the lower ground floor of The Medical City and donate blood in my name. For platelets Apheresis you may go have yourself screened at the Phil. Nat'l Red Cross at the Pier in Manila. I am type O positive. Thank you again."

Philippine music icons Francis Magalona and Pupil next album, "Sickos"

Both undergoing health problems, music icons Francis Magalona and Pupil lead vocalist Ely Buendia continues doing what they both love most, Music. The two is currently collaborating for a new album entitled, "Sickos".

They started recording November of last year. With this album their eying in creating a new foundation for artists who are sick and undergoing financial problems or who need hospitalization.

Health problem : Heart condition problem for Ely while Francis M is currently undergoing chemotherapy because of leukemia.

Explosive live performance on the return of two Pinoy music icon at GMA's Eat Bulaga.

Francis Magalona and Ely Buendia with his band Pupil rocked the house down as they sang "Super Proxy" together. You will feel the emotions of the crowd and all the Eat Bulaga host and staff. Their teary eyes means "Welcome Back!!!".

Last August, Ely Buendia has underwent again another angioplasty procedure after his heart attack at the reunion concert with his former band Eraserheads at the Bonifacio Global City open field.

Francis Magalona has been diagnosed with leukemia and still he is slowly recovering.

With their courage and help, Francis Magalona said, "This is a victory for the sick people".

Donors and helps are pouring over the sad news of Francis Magalona has leukemia. The master rapper sent an official statement via a text message to Eat Bulaga and was read on air by Vic Sotto.

Here Francis message:

"Sa lahat ng mga dabarkads ko dito sa Eat Bulaga! miss ko na kayong lahat. Araw-araw magkakasama tayo at kayo'y naging second family ko na. Pati na rin lahat ng mga viewers sa mga bahay at sa studio.

"Ngayon meron akong isang pagsubok na dapat daanan at ang hiling ko lang ay ang inyong pang-unawa at suporta. I have been diagnosed with leukemia and I am preparing for my treatment.

"Sa tulong ng Panginoon kakayanin ko po ito. Abangan ninyo ang aking pagbabalik. ‘Di ko lang kayo miss, love ko kayong lahat."

Francis Magalona has leukemia, urgent of need blood donors

A very sad news for the Philippine entertainment industry. Philippine Music icon Francis Magalona has been diagnosed with leukemia and is currently in need of blood donors.

Urgent need of Blood Type O and platelets will be accepted. Donation can be made at The Medical City is located along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City.

Leukemia or leukaemia is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal proliferation (production by multiplication) of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes).

Francis Magalona a.k.a. Master Rapper/The Man introduced Pinoy style rap music in the Philippines. He released many rap hit song like "Mga Kababayan,""Mga Praning," "Meron Akong Ano," "Man From Manila," "Cold Summer Nights," "Bahay Yugyugan," "Ito ang Gusto Ko," "Girl Be Mine," and "Kaleidoscope World."

He also served as the first Filipino VJ for both MTV Philippines and Channel V.
