PROFILES Magazine marries business and showbiz

PROFILES Magazine proves that the beauty of GMA celebrities is but an extension of their people and country. Aside from short and substantial stories about your favorite Kapuso, the magazine comes out as a celebration of the Filipino lifestyle.

It is hoped that these would help bring in more tourists to the Philippines who are sure to make warm and lasting “movies in their minds.” That is, if each of us is truly the star in our own stage, then in the Philippines, it means riding into a golden sunset as the credits roll.

The initiatives of PROFILES Magazine should come as no surprise since it is spearheaded by the PREF Media Group of real estate mogul Rosemarie C. Basa. As guiding force behind the annual Philippine Estate Festival (PREF)---that has been gathering for six years now, all players in the real estate industry in order to showcase the best real estate development in the country---Basa certainly knows the potency and power that come to fore whenever the bond between the business sector and the entertainment industry is forged.

“The real estate industry acknowledges the need for celebrity endorsers to sell the various property developments,” says she on how the two worlds merge, making no bones that Profiles magazine will afford these sectors “a wide array of celebrity endorsers at their best.”

Bringing out the best in the GMAAC celebrities and the biggest Kapuso icons is a support group-slash-dream team comprised by the most formidable names and brands in the publication and fashion industries. For creative direction, the PREF Media Group got the Mega Publishing Group. As for the photographers, Xander Angeles, Glen Tungol and Niko Villegas of the Edge of Light Studio came on board. Fashion stylist Ryuji Shiomitsu unselfishly shared his genius as with designers Dave Ocampo, Vin Orias, Shanon Pamaong, Karina Nash, Je-c Macaraig, Seph Bagasao, Korinne Vinarao, Oz Go, Joei Magsayo, Ruigi Bernabe, Mikee Andrei, Marian Madayag, Eva Revillosa and Yong Davalos of the Fashion Institute of the Philippines and well-known designers Rajo Laurel, Ito Curata, Nono Palmos, Francis Libiran, Nat Manilag, Rhett Eala, Lyle Ibanez, Happy Andrada, and Adrian Sahagun.

Then, of course, the stars who came out to play for a purpose; the GMA talents who exemplify, as Basa puts it, the beauty of the Filipino. GMA contract artists Manny Pacquiao, Cesar Montano and Bong Revilla are the icons who lent their grace and splendor to the magazine and be featured side by side with the GMAAC talents. They are all expected attend the launch of PROFILES Magazine on Nov. 8 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

GMAAC, also known as the Talent Development and Management Department, is headed by Ms. Ida Ramos-Henares. As the primary source of talents for the GMA Network and its subsidiaries, the Talent Management team has given its artists a good position in obtaining roles and projects in the network. And as a competitive player in the advertising industry, the unit also takes care of its artists by acquiring endorsement deals for them.
Ida is very happy for this partnership with Pref Media, which was her sole initiative. “The benefits work both ways. Our artists get their share of the necessary exposure in this magazine, and at the same time being showcased to other business networks which can possibly present more opportunities for them in the future. We are very happy with this partnership with Pref Media, a very respectable corporate partner,” she said.

For its maiden issue, Profiles challenged the norm of a single cover magazine; instead, it featured nine covers which include Iza Calzado; Rhian Ramos; Tim Yap; Aljur Abrenica, Kris Bernal and Bela Padilla; Jackie Rice, Solenn Heusaff, Lovi Poe, Gwen Zamora and Sarah Lahbati; and hosts Steph Henares, Gino dela Pena, Luane Dy and Jace Flores. The Profiles Magazine launch was held last November 8 at Rizal Ballroom, Makati Shangri-La Hotel where it was attended by GMA executives like GMA President and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon and Mrs. Tessie Gozon, SVP for Entertainment TV Ms. Wilma Galvante, VP for Program Support Reggie Bautista and VP for GMA Films Joey Abacan. And since this is an event merged from two different sectors, diplomats and business tycoons were also present in the event.
