Happy Gilmore's, Frances Bay, Dies at 92

Character actress Frances Bay, who played the hapless but loving grandmother of Adam Sandler's in the 1996 film "Happy Gilmore", died Sept 15. She was 92.


Bay always wanted to be an actress but she began her acting career at the age of 50. She went on to received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in 2008.

The Canadian actress landed her first film role in the 1976 Goldie Hawn-Chevy Chase comedy "Foul Play."

In 2002, an unfortunate accident happened to her in Glendale, California as she was struck by a car. She had to have part of her right leg amputated but still she continued to appear on TV. Her last TV project is her role as Aunt Ginny in ABC’s The Middle.

Other memorable appearances in films includes "Blue Velvet," " "Wild at Heart," and "Big Top Pee-wee". Some of her TV show credits includes "Seinfeld" and Fonzie's Grandma Nussbaum in "Happy Days."
