Veteran actor Peter Falk, who is best known for his role as Lieutenant Frank Columbo in the detective crime TV series "Columbo", has died Thursday in his Beverly Hills home. He was 83 years old.
A rep for the family issued a statement, "Peter Falk, 83-year-old Academy Award nominee and star of television series, 'Columbo', died peacefully at his Beverly Hills home in the evening of June 23, 2011."
Faulk had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and this issue was used in the conservatorship court battle back in 2009 between Falk's wife Shera Danese Falk and daughter Catherine Falk. His wife was appointed as her husband's conservator.
He received five Emmy awards: one for "The Price of Tomatoes" in 1961 and four Emmys were for "Columbo."
