"Jeff was taken off life-support [Thursday] afternoon," his manager, Phil Brock, tells PEOPLE. "His family chose to take him off of life-support based on advice from physicians. They thought for several days that the situation was hopeless."
Conaway became notable when he took the role of Kenickie in the 1978 film adaptation of 'Grease' alongside John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Also in the same year, Conaway joined the cast of the hit TV series "Taxi," playing the role of Bobby Wheeler (1978-1981). He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1978.
