Katie Couric will be signing off in CBS Evening News after five years to pursue a new project in hosting her own syndicated show after her contract expires on June 4, 2011.
The veteran journalist hasn’t officially quit CBS but Katie thinks she fell short in providing new things due to some restraints as an anchor in CBS Evening News.
Katie says, "I would have given people what they were used to, a traditional newscast. And then as they got to know me and got more comfortable, then I would’ve started toying with the format and trying new things. I think we were overly ambitious. We probably would have been better off playing it a little safer."
She is now in talks with different networks and she plans to start the syndicated show in September of 2012.

Rush is onec again showing his malicious ignorance. The CBS news started declining when then network prematurel¬y got rid of Cronkite and replaced him with weird Dan. In the early 1970's CBS saw its future and it was not bright because advertiser¬s discovered the value of urban 18-49 demographi¬cs and CBS was country 50+. After the Walters-Re¬asoner debacle ABC went with a more mature Jennings and things go competitive. It was Rather, not Couric. Moonvese mistakenly thought her personalit¬y would turn things around which was not likely and not her fault. She's got more talent in her little finger than Rush has in his big fat body. Let's remember the FAILED RUSH LIMBAUGH TV SHOW. Of course he blamed everyone else for it - the stand up guy that he is.
Katie Couric was a disaster, what turned away a lot of people was the way she ignored Dan Rather. Bob Schieffer had higher ratings than Katie and is probably the only real chance they have. I think CBS Evening news is done.
I want to see Betty Nguyen take Katie Couric's spot not Anderson Cooper
