Former Mexican bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel, who failed to defend his title after being knockout by Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, will now undergo plastic surgery due to a bone fracture in his cheekbone.
Donaire confirmed the said news and he sent his message to his fellow fighter via Facebook:
"I want to give up 2 things to God: my win last night and also Montiels speedy recovery for his zygomatic bone fracture and reconstructive surgery. In both moments, only He can help us."
Donaire has won the bout via 2nd round TKO. If you watch the fight clip [HERE], Montiel is unconsciously trying to get up during his knockdown.
Donaire is now the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion.
