Angelina Jolie attends trial of Congolese warlord in Netherlands

Angelina Jolie was present at the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands to watch the trial proceedings against a Congolese warlord who is charged for using child soldiers (May 19).

The 33-year-old actress said that the prosecution of warlord Thomas Lubanga is "a landmark trial for children."

Jolie said in a statement, "I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him".

"“Children deserve special protection. Using children in conflict is a heinous crime and destroys the very fabric of a society."

Thomas Lubanga is the founder and leader of the Union of Congolese Patriots political movement.
