girl group "21" changes name to "2NE1"

After years of planning and using the code name "female Big Bang", YG Entertainment formally announced few days ago that the new girl group that consist of Sandara Park, Park Bom, CL and Gong Min-Ji will be called "21". Now, in a recent development YG is changing the group's name again due to some conflicts and unfavorable public comments.

Their changing "21" to “2NE1”, adding “NE” that refers to “new evolution.”

According to K bites, "21" has the same name to another singer which debuted in 2005.

YG automatically acted on this confusion that's why they decided to change the name of the group.
YG said, “It is such a shame that we didn’t thought of a singer with the same name. Even though we do not have any plans to change their name, we will change the English name of ‘To Anyone (투애니원)’ to 2NE1. “

“Though they have the same name, the meaning to the names are different. Hence we hope that fans will not misunderstand. Please continue to support the group.”
YG's decision is correct, the name is more distinctive but some people will still comment that the new name is sounds like a new new game console.

Listen to their debut single "Lollipop".
