"Himala" is CNN best film of all time in Asia-Pacific

Ishmael Bernal’s 1882 masterpiece film "Himala" starring Nora Aunor was proclaimed best film of all time in Asia-Pacific by CNN poll and was announced during the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia’s Gold Coast.

"Himala" is about a girl who claims to have been chosen by the Virgin Mary as the messenger of good faith in a backward town.

The film's camera work, haunting score and accomplished performances sensitively portray the harsh social and cultural conditions that people in the third world.

Himala bested tough competitors, namely Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon from China; The Seven Samurai from Japan; Gabbeh from Iran; Gallipoli from Australia; Pather Panchali from India; Spirited Away from Japan; Oldboy from South Korea; Infernal Affairs from Hong Kong/China; and Chungking Express from China.
