With his spectacular achievement, he was proclaimed the Greatest Olympian of All-time. Michael Phelps is now gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated, adorned with his eight gold medals.
Phelps posed for Sports Illustrated photographer Simon Bruty, replicating the famous shot of Mark Spitz after he won seven golds in the 1972 Olympics in Munich 36 years ago.
“What is the value of eight golds in Beijing before a prime-time audience in the U.S?” his agent Peter Carlisle asked. “I’d say $100 million over the course of his lifetime.”
The Aug. 25, 2008 edition of Sports Illustrated issue hits newsstands on Wednesday.
